Discussion

This was the second of four spits, excavated in an attempt to define the complex sequence of enclosure ditches at the north-western corner of area 12AD. It was begun after the first spit (012AD05064), had reached a depth of 10cm with no discernible difference in the soil. The material removed was a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3) with 10% chalk inclusions. No daub or charcoal flecking was noted.
